The Raybestos brand was established for brake linings and later would become the flagship brand for BPI.
Echlin was established as an automotive aftermarket supplier by Jack and Earl Echlin. Echlin later acquired the Raybestos brand.
First Raybestos Safety in Speed award was presented in conjunction with the Indianapolis 500. This award laid the groundwork for the Raybestos brand commitment to safety and performance.
Echlin purchased United Parts in Chicago, IL, and relocated the business to McHenry, IL, the future home of BPI.
